The Future of Alternative Fuel Technology
Posted on May 3rd, 2011 by admin
Fossile fuels are a rapidly depleting natural resource that cannot be readily renewed. Millions of years were spent in its creation. This has forced people to look into alternative fuel sources. While past attempts at the creation of easily renewed fuels met with limited success, modern technology and the march of progress have begun to provide alternative fuels such as ethanol and bio-diesel.
In the past the costs of producing biofuels was prohibitively expensive compared to the amount of fuel produced. There were many difficulties in production that made the price considerably higher than the cost of standard fuel costs. However, with the ever rising prices of standard gasoline biofuels are beginning to be seen as a true alternative. Every year that passes brings the cost of biofuel production down a little more. It will not be much longer before the cost of ethanol, biodiesel, and gasoline are virtually the same. In some locations it has already reached this point. In a few locations at present alternative fuels are actually less expensive than traditional fuels.
The only real issue with the usage of these fuels is that they do not provide as much raw fuel economy as gasoline. This means that the current types of biofuel require greater consumption of said alternative fuel per mile traveled. This increases the cost. In the future this will not be the case, however.
